- Period: 15th – 16th c.Source: Inspired by original pieces, this is the type of weapon that may have been used according to the teachings of Achille Marozzo in his Opera Nova (1536).  Bills have been in use in war since ca. 1200, and it was a particular favorite with the English; used in conjunction with the longbow (See also George Silver and his Paradoxes of Defence (1599)).
